I wanted to alert you to a job we just posted that may be especially appropriate for recent graduates or other early career archivists in your networks. It’s a new role on the ArchivesSpace team with the title Standards and Testing Archivist. This is a three-year term position with the possibility of continuation dependent on funding. We’d love your help in getting the word out.
The person in the position will split their efforts between standards support and testing-based activities. While candidates could come to this position with different types of experience, we’re ideally looking for someone who is early in their journey in archives. They wouldn’t need to come in knowing any of the standards that shape archives work backwards and forwards, but they should already be interested in this side of archives work and have the aptitude for engaging more deeply with it. The testing part of the job does not necessarily require specific testing experience, but will draw on many of the same detail-oriented qualities that a standards-loving person likely has. It will include regular manual testing of the ArchivesSpace application to make sure things work correctly and writing behavior scenarios and simple automated tests to improve our testing coverage overall. Like all ArchivesSpace jobs, it is fully remote and professional travel and training relevant to the work of the position will be paid for and encouraged.
Given the nature of the work and that there will be no direct involvement with collections, I’d say this job isn’t for everyone, but for the right person it would be a really wonderful opportunity to engage deeply and potentially have a significant impact on the archives profession. In ArchivesSpace we connect with and help people in many different kinds of repositories all around the world, and connect them to each other in ways they may not have otherwise. It is very gratifying and has the possibility of opening other doors for later on.
Applications must be received through the Lyrasis jobs portal and must have a cover letter and resume. The deadline to apply is July 7, 2025.
