Campbell Libraries seeks a self-motivated, remote Prison Education Research Support Intern to provide online, asynchronous reference services to students enrolled in our Second Chance prison education degree programs. These incarcerated students submit research requests which will be fulfilled by the intern under the guidance of the Research & Instruction Services department. MLS students fulfilling this paid internship role will have flexibility in daily hours and may work remotely. The right candidate will feel confident providing reference support, be able to manage turnaround times of the research requests which can tend to have seasonal rhythms, and will gain valuable experience fulfilling authentic reference needs for undergraduate college courses utilizing Campbell Libraries’ resources.
Interns will be paid $14/hour and are each eligible to work up to 250 hours between June 1, 2026 - May 31, 2027. While this internship supports remote work, primary consideration will go to candidates who reside in North Carolina as they must occasionally come to Wiggins Memorial Library (Buies Creek, NC).
Campbell University is committed to providing educational opportunities to incarcerated students in North Carolina, in order to reduce recidivism and improve the students’ lives and the communities in which they live. The prison education program began at Sampson Correctional Institution in 2019, graduating 11 students in August 2021 with an AS in Behavioral Sciences, and now provides a BA/BS in Communication Studies at Sampson Correctional Institution and Anson Correctional Institution.
