The Western North Carolina LGBTQIA+ Archive is a community-based project collecting oral history and physical artifacts related to LGBTQ+ history of the South. We seek a Digital Archives Assistant who will work closely with the lead archivist to transition existing materials to a new catalogue management system (likely using Omeka) and to digitize oral histories (likely using Aviary) for ease of access on our website. The ideal candidate would be a library sciences, queer studies, or history graduate student, or perhaps, a school / county librarian with interest in supporting grassroots LGBTQ+ historical preservation efforts.
Responsibilities Include:

- Improving the usability and professionalism of our archive’s digital entry portal and website
- Assist with in-person community engagement events and public history programming
- Support archival organization and digital asset management
Required Qualifications:
- Excellent communication skills (written, visual, and interpersonal)
- Ability to work independently, with low-level supervision
- Commitment to project mission (to preserve LGBTQ+ history and make it widely accessible for people of all ages)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with graduate school experience in library sciences, LGBTQ+ studies, and/or history
- 1 - 3 years experience working with digital collections and archives
- Digital storytelling experience
- Experience with the catalogue management system Omeka and/or the data synchronization software Aviary
