NC State Libraries Collections & Research Engagement department (CoRE) and the African American Cultural Center Library (AACC) are partnering to offer a unique graduate student summer position for the summer of 2026! If you love archives, artifacts, and African American and Afro diasporic cultures and communities, this could be a great opportunity for you! You’ll engage in advanced hands-on professional experience in library special collections management, digital preservation, and ethical documentation while contributing meaningfully to the library’s long-term access and outreach goals.
During Summer 2026, the graduate assistant will have the opportunity to spend approximately 80% of their time researching and designing an inventory plan or system that will increase the community's access to the African American Cultural Center’s collection of physical cultural artifacts and autographed books. The graduate student will have the opportunity to present on their experience and methodologies at the AACC’s Signature Symposium on Afrofuturism and Diasporic Scholarship in Spring 2027. The other 20% of the position will be spent working with the Collections & Research Engagement department creating outreach materials that align our digital primary source collections with the AACC’s interdisciplinary research areas. This position will be collaboratively co-supervised by Wynter Douglas in the AACC and Emily Cox in CoRE.
