INDEXER-METADATA LIBRARIAN / NATIONAL SECURITY ARCHIVE / WASHINGTON, D.C.
The National Security Archive is seeking a full-time librarian with experience in metadata creation and bibliographic database management to prepare descriptions of declassified documents for publication in the award-winning Digital National Security Archive (DNSA) database on U.S. foreign, intelligence, and security policy. This is an excellent opportunity to apply cataloging, indexing, abstracting, and editorial skills in a collegial, team-based environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Indexer-Metadata Librarian collaborates with the indexing team to:
- prepare descriptive cataloging;
- evaluate subject content and apply indexing terms using a controlled vocabulary;
- write original abstracts;
- review metadata for accuracy and consistency;
- maintain database of controlled vocabulary;
- manage the Lucidea/Sydney Digital cataloging system and provide training and support to internal users
- implement special projects, as required.
REQUIREMENTS: MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution; experience in indexing and/or cataloging, interest in foreign affairs, excellent writing and editing skills, strong organizational and time management skills, and proficiency with database and/or library cataloging software. Experience implementing automated indexing systems is a plus.
DATE AVAILABLE: Immediately.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position, beginning with a six-months probationary period. Salary starts at $80,000; negotiable with supervisory experience and/or familiarity with automated indexing systems.
