I am currently hiring a graduate assistant to support a grant-funded research project on developing strategies to for libraries to collect, preserve, and provide access to video games that are released exclusively through digital-only distribution platforms.
The position will start in Fall 2025 and run through Summer 2026. The position is open to all UNCG MLIS students; work can be completed remotely/virtually.
Project Overview
As the video game industry increasingly embraces digital-only distribution methods and ceases to release games on physical media like disks or cartridges, libraries will need to develop new strategies and approaches comparable to ebooks and digital video to continue supporting library gaming services and collections. Digital Games in Libraries (DGIL) is addressing this critical issue by conducting research with librarians and game developers to develop new strategies that will work for both library and gaming communities. DGIL will host a national virtual forum to start a bigger conversation about this issue. Following the forum, DGIL will constitute working groups to develop roadmaps for next steps.
