Primary Purpose of Position:
The Digital Access Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing the branch which provides online access to indexes, finding aids, digitally formatted archival materials, and information related to the collections and services provided by the Division of Archives and Records.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversees staff responsible for supervising the digitization of materials and creation of metadata for access through the online digital collections.
- Creates policies, tools, guidelines, and training materials related to the creation of materials for and the use of the division’s online resources.
- Collaborates with State Library of North Carolina staff on shared digital collections, indexes, and metadata standards.
- Oversees the process for selecting materials to be added to the digital collections.
- Manages website and social media tools of the Division of Archives and Records, including development of content, formatting, and workflows.
- Serves on the division management team to assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
- Works with the Digital Archivist to prepare digital files for preservation and access.
- Utilize strong written and verbal communications skills, innovation, strategic thinking, and strong attention to detail.
Position/Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs.
- Must be available to work Saturdays on a rotational basis with other division staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Qualified candidates must have or be able to:
- Demonstrated experience in archival and records management principles and metadata standards.
- Demonstrated experience supervising and/or leading staff in appraising, arranging, and describing records and documents
- Demonstrated experience with high level planning, organizing, and staffing of complex projects.
- Demonstrated knowledge to interpret and apply thorough knowledge of concepts of fair use, intellectual property rights, copyright law, and state and federal public records laws.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Master's degree in history, public history, library and information science, or a related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of progressive experience in archives and/or records management
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Section/Unit Description:
The Digital Access Branch of the Digital Services Section is responsible for providing online access to the holdings and services of the State Archives of North Carolina. Branch staff digitize archival materials and create metadata for inclusion in the North Carolina Digital Collections; standardize metadata in the DOC online catalog; maintain the website of the State Archives of North Carolina; promote archival materials by writing social media posts and managing social media accounts for the division; and create online and in-person training on the use of State Archives online resources.

The Division of Archives and Records seeks to be a national leader in providing quality guidance on information stewardship in North Carolina and in creating simplified and integrated access to authentic information. We document the history and culture of our state through diverse collecting. We protect citizen rights and promote government transparency by providing equitable access and stewardship for public and historical records. We broaden understanding and engagement in North Carolina’s rich history through outreach and collaboration.
