UGA Libraries is actively working to build a highly collaborative and impactful team of librarians who are committed to helping equip the communities we serve with the instruction and research support they need to be successful. Academic Engagement Librarians provide instruction and research support to students, faculty, and researchers across a variety of disciplines. This role is part of Academic Engagement’s STEM team, which is broadening its scope to meet a growing need for research and instructional support related to health sciences. The Academic Engagement Librarian will develop, deliver, and assess effective instruction that builds the critical and analytical thinking skills essential to working with information—skills that support students in their coursework, research, and beyond. This role will leverage active learning practices and online learning tools to create meaningful and engaging learning opportunities in a variety of formats, including course-integrated instruction, stand-alone workshops, research consultations, teach-the-teacher sessions, and interactive tutorials. The role will also provide research consultations, including support for systematic reviews and citation management. Each librarian in the Academic Engagement team serves as a service area specialist, helping coordinate or lead on a different service area, such as online learning, systematic review, citation management, chat/student supervision, student engagement, and disciplinary subject support. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and lead in a specific service area based on the emerging needs of the department and in consultation with the Director of Academic Engagement. Within the department, teams focus on radical collaboration that deepens student, faculty, and researcher engagement with the libraries, creates more opportunities for interdisciplinary experimentation, and optimizes access to collections and resources. The librarian will help identify and contribute to growth areas that advance these goals.
