The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) is hiring Data Scientists as part of our commitment to developing a 21st-century data infrastructure. Data Scientists will support key initiatives, including data linkage and data visualizations systems. Through modernization of programs like the Digest of Education of Statistics and longitudinal studies, Data Scientists within NCES will serve a pivotal role in ensuring the Center continues to provide quality data for evidence-based policymaking and public data users.

Overview
- Position Title: Data Science Series - 1560
- Pay scale & grade: GS 13
- Location: This position is remote work and telework eligible consistent with the Agency’s telework and remote work program policy.
Duties
Data Scientists ( GS-1560-13) will be responsible for:
- Managing the collection of structured and unstructured data; transformation of data for official statistical use; the extraction, transfer, and loading (ETL) of data into production pipelines; developing and maintaining code repositories; analysis of data trends, and the development of visualizations that enable the data users to make data driven decisions.
- Managing the planning, design, implementation, and documentation of data science initiatives undertaken by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and proactively identifying issues for which a Data Science solution can be applied.
- Training others in the use of data analytic tools and techniques through the development of plans, and trains others on assembling, evaluating, analyzing, and visually representing data.
