The Boston Public Library (BPL) seeks a Cataloger and Classifier I to assist in performing descriptive and subject cataloging, including basic original cataloging and classification. As a member of the Cataloging and Processing department, the incumbent will also assist in the processing of physical library materials and participate in special projects involving the modification of large numbers of bibliographic records.
BPL has a rich collection of circulating materials spanning over 18 world languages, as well as a vast body of research materials including both uncataloged and undercataloged items. Many of these research items are coming to light as part of a concerted effort to catalog the Library's oldest material in our Founding Research Collection, spanning five centuries and containing more than 500,000 volumes, thousands of which date from before 1820. This Cataloger and Classifier I will be an integral part of our Founding Research Collection project as well as a participant in routine department workflows. This is a regular, full-time union position located at Boston Public Library’s Copley (Central) Branch. The salary minimum is 57,683.08, and the maximum is 75,202.25. Please note that the incumbent must be a resident of the City of Boston upon the first day of hire.
