Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit | The Early College Research Center conducts and synthesizes research relative to the early college model. The Center is housed within SERVE, which does educational research and development work. |
Position Summary | This position will be involved in research and evaluation activities, with a primary content focus on early college, but may include other educational reform areas as well. This is a potentially hybrid position to be housed either in Durham NC or Browns Summit, NC with the option to work remotely part of the time. Travel for data collection, meetings, and conferences is required. |

Essential Tasks | The Research Specialist will conduct research, evaluation, or meta-analysis studies. This individual will be involved in mixed methods studies but will be asked to conduct primarily quantitative analyses. As part of this work the individual may be asked to: develop research questions, submit IRB protocols, conduct literature reviews, design instruments or protocols, collect data through surveys or site visits, manage datasets, conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses, synthesize results, and develop written products. The responsibilities include dealing with clients throughout the data collection process and facilitating discussions of results with practitioners. Data might include data drawn from large existing datasets and original data collected through other means. The position will be responsible for overseeing portions of larger projects. |

Essential Tasks | The Research Specialist will be responsible for managing both primary and secondary data sets for a variety of descriptive and impact evaluations. Related duties and responsibilities include: importing and cleaning large datasets using R, SAS, STATA or related statistical package software, variable coding and constructions, data analysis, interpretation, and reporting of information collected instrumentation, creating codebooks and data documentation files, creating visualizations to help present the data effectively. |

Essential Tasks | Write reports and disseminate findings from research and evaluation studies. The Research Specialist will be called upon to develop reports, publications, and presentations that summarize results from original studies or that synthesize other existing research. Responsibilities may include submitting findings for consideration to refereed journals, presenting findings at national meetings, and presenting to policymakers and practitioners. In addition, the position may be asked to contribute to training manuals, videos, newsletters, magazines and other SERVE products. |
