Atkins Library at UNC Charlotte is accepting applications for our Atkins Fellows summer program. Applications submitted by January 29th will receive first consideration. These fellowships are designed to give MLIS students hands-on experience in an academic library.
The Atkins Fellows program is a ten-week paid summer fellowship for students at the mid-point of their Library, Archives, or Information Science degree program, or those within one year of having completed such a program. The program is designed to provide fellows with a work experience that is focused on professional-level tasks, with high levels of independence and creativity. The four projects proposed for 2025 include work with AI research and instruction, community archives, health science collections, and student wellness. Fellows have the opportunity to attend workshops, job talks, and local conferences, as well as job shadow and participate in library meetings. Participants in this program will receive $20/hour for ten weeks of full-time work. We are excited to be able to offer program participants joining from beyond Charlotte an additional $1500 housing and transportation stipend to help with the cost of moving here for the summer.
More information about the positions and the program can be found on the Atkins Fellows website. Read through testimonials from former participants in the program to learn more about the experience. We are offering an informational webinar on Friday, January 10th at 12 p.m. EST where you will have the opportunity to learn more about the program and ask questions of the program coordinator. Registration for the webinar is required. A recording of the session will be available for those who cannot join.
